Funding Opportunities
Both Princeton University and the Department of Economics offer research funding to our majors for selected Junior Independent Work (JIW) and senior thesis projects. Applicants can not apply to multiple funding pools for the same project. While applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, they must be submitted at least seven weeks before the JIW or Senior Thesis due date.
Limited departmental funding is also available to our majors to support economics-related unpaid summer internships and participation in economics competitions and conferences (e.g., for the presentation of a student’s thesis research). Eligible summer internships must be in the non-profit or public sector, unpaid, full-time, and last a minimum of 4 weeks.
The Department of Economics also accepts applications for Summer Research Grants. These grants are for excellent students, typically those planning to pursue graduate studies in Economics, who wish to conduct independent research in economics under the guidance of a faculty member over the summer. Applicants are responsible to find a faculty sponsor and design their own project. Applications for Summer 2023 will be accepted through SAFE until April 30, 2023.
All funding applications must be submitted through the university’s centralized Student Activities Funding Engine, or SAFE. Please do not apply directly to the Department of Economics.
