Congratulations to Professor Jianqing Fan, the Frederick L. Moore ’18 Professor of Finance at Princeton University, on his election to the National Academy of Sciences as part of the 2026 class. Fan is a Professor of Statistics and Professor of Operations Research and Financial Engineering.
The Academy was established in 1863 as a private, nongovernmental institution with the mission of recognizing and elevating outstanding scientific advancements, achievements, and contributions. With the aim of fostering a broad understanding of science, the Academy also oversees the National Research Council, which produces and promotes the “adoption of independent, authoritative, trusted scientific advice to the government for the benefit of society.”
Election to the Academy is attained entirely through peer recommendation and is widely considered one of the highest honors a scientist can receive. Fan’s inclusion in this year’s class of 120 new members is a testament to his exceptional contributions to the field and his groundbreaking research. Not only has his work transformed modern approaches to data analysis, but he continues to mentor, inform, and inspire generations of scholars.
