The Economics Department welcomes four new faculty members for Fall 2024

As the 2024-2025 academic year kicks off, the Economics Department at Princeton is proud to announce four new members of its faculty. 

From experts in labor economics to theory to finance, learn more about each person and their areas of research.

Ayșegül Şahin

Joining us from the University of Texas at Austin, Professor Ayșegül Şahin will be affiliated with both the Economics Department and Princeton’s School for Public and International Affairs (Princeton SPIA). Şahin is a macroeconomist who studies U.S. labor market trends and fluctuations.

Mira Frick and Ryota Iijima

Mira Frick and Ryota IijimaJoining us from Yale University, Professors Mira Frick and Ryota Iijima—who are frequent research collaborators—work on theoretical models of how individuals acquire and process information and make decisions, in particular in complex environments. Frick and Iijima previously spent a sabbatical at Princeton in 2018-2019.

Daniel ChenDaniel Chen

Daniel Chen, an economic theorist with broad interests in finance and microeconomics, will join the department as an Assistant Professor of Economics. Chen recently completed a postdoc with the Bendheim Center for Finance and will remain affiliated with the center moving forward.
