The award is presented each year at the Frankfurt Book Fair by the German newspaper Handelsblatt, the Frankfurt Book Fair, and Goldman Sachs.
The prize is awarded annually to a renowned international economist whose research, in the spirit of the work undertaken by Professor Jean-Jacques Laffont, combines both the theoretical and the empirical.

Princeton Professor Nobuhiro Kiyotaki has been awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Edinburgh for his “significant contribution to current research being undertaken on financial markets, labour markets, and the aggregate economy” and for his “internationally recognized influence as a macroeconomist of the last 30 years.”
Princeton Economics Professor Kate Ho has been elected to The Econometric Society as a 2019 Fellow. The Society also recognized Princeton Economics Professor Nobuhiro Kiyotaki, who was elected to the Council’s Asia Standing Committee.
